Notes on some steps of engineering design process 1 – Product Architecture can be defined as how different parts are connected with each other. This can be presented by a prototype, 3-dimentional drawings, initial sketching and drawing of all design particle 2- Configuration Design: this would include design calculations, selection of materials, manufacturing process, modeling of design or certain parts 3- Parametric Design: this is basically reviewing design under different condition to determine limitations and tolerance (this is an analysis step – example: a chair would support a maximum weight of 250 kg, and average clevator load would be carrying 6 persons of maximum weight of 1500 kg). PD would include product testing and evaluation results. Design Problem Description: Read the following problem description and answer the following question using information giving below: There is in need to design an armchair for a local furniture company. The armchair should be designed with lightweight materials (eg, wood, hard fibers, Medium-density fiberglass), reasonable cost le.g. simple connections, normal finish), comfortable seat (use high quality sponge or cushion fabric), and a feature allowing user to hold a drinking cup. No plastic materials can be included in the arcmchair which would increase cost. The designed armchair after trial and use test should support s person with maximum weight of 260 kg. The chair back support width is calculated based on health requirements and found to be 68 cm, and armrests (hand supports) should be made from high quality sponge and fine leather. The chair is designed for all users except for people with back- pain or with special needs. Assume the following design sketches were provided for this project: 23cm Figure 2A Figure 2B Figure 2C
